What is says really. I am not buying with an italian mortgage, so won't have buildings insurance included. I also need contents insurance, (If I ever get furniture!). Where do I buy from? Does anyone know whether it is needed at completion?

Hi Marg1

We have an Itailian Mortgage and Insurance broker. She speaks perfect English ( she is half canadian half Italian). We bought our mortgage and insurances.

I can recommend her 100% she has for us always gone the extra.

Her name is Maggie and you can e-mail her on galluzzovincenzo@libero.it

We got ours with for from Intasure on behalf of Lloyds of London for £157 if that helps

That was for buildings and contents but did not include earthquake cover.

I think all places have to be built to withstand earthquakes so I didnt take the option.

Chris,

I took a look at Intasure but my quote seemed rather expensive. How did you determine the value of your buildings insurance. Did you use the purchase price?

Thanks

Pat

Intasure have just quoted me £190 for building and contents including accidental damage (I valued contents at 2000 euros). 1-bedroomed apartment. Does this seem good?

I was surprised after contacting Maggie to get a call from Intasure. As we already use them for our other apartment I was hoping to get a quote from someone new.

I've just received my renewal from Intasure for buildings and contents for £274.44 a 50% increase from what I paid last year.
My premium last year was brought down to £176.84 from their initial quote of £204.44.
I will be calling them again for them to reduce the premium.
Anyone else had outrageous so called "index linked" increases ?

I've just received my renewal quotation from Intasure - £370!! I've used them for the past few years but will certainly be looking elsewhere this time.

I am also with Intasure. Just did an online quote with Scholfields with £50 excess.
https://www.schofields.ltd.uk

Contents Insurance : £15000

Includes Public & Employers Liability Insurance

Your Insurance cover over the next year is £210.29

My Intasure quote had gone up 50% so I rang then and they reduced it by 25%.Never pay the first price for anything you should always go back and haggle !

I managed to get Intasure down from £274.74 to £216.72.
Last years premium was £176.64 so the premium increased by 18.5%.
Apparently the increase was due to th high claims in Italy due to the earthquake.
I checked several other companies for quotes that included earthquake cover eg Schofields & Insurance for Holiday Homes, Intasure was the cheapest after bargaining. Many of the other companies I contacted did not include earthquake cover for Italy.

I had the same experience. They started at £310 and quickly discounted my quote after I compplained about the renewal going up. I tried http://www.assetsure.comand managed to get the quote down £30 - at least thats something! I think all building insurtance is going up this year because of all the winter claims last year across Europe and back in the UK.
