See http://www.monarch.co.uk/

You are now able to book direct flights from London Gatwick to lamezia.

They are not the cheapest flights but at least they are direct.

Phil.

Phil,

Thanks for posting confirmation that the route news has now become fact.

Indeed, as you rightly say, not the cheapest [at the moment] but at least a direct route. I have found the cheapest per person out and return combined cost of flights of £229.50 and most expensive of £311.50... ouch!

I personally will monitor Monarch's sister company website: www.avro.co.uk for price movement. I have never used the avro website before but an office colleague advises me that he has and in the "old fashioned way" he has seen prices reduce rather than increase if empty seats are available close to flight date departure. I clearly can NOT confirm this.

Having "played" with a collection of dates, the Timetable appears to be as follows:

Flights are operating on Saturdays ONLY from Gatwick to Lamezia Terme with the earliest departure date of Sat 30th April 2011 to the latest return date of Sat 29th October, 2011.

Outward Flights Dep/Arr from/to LGW/SUF at 06.30/10.30
Inbound Flights Dep/Arr from/to SUF/LGW at 11.30/13.35

With the exception of the outbound flight of Saturday 30th April 2011 with the much more respectable Departure/Arrival times of LGW/SUF of 14:35/18:35 (Last possible date that falls within the Winter Timetable?)

Hope this is of benefit?

Regards,

Micket "O"

Hi Phil,
Thanks for the information.
I have also checked the Monarch/Avro website and on average the teturn flights are certainly not cheap from about £230 - £300+. On top of this you can pay an extra £12 for a bookable seat, £20 for 20kg hold luggage and you can purchase a meal on the flight. You are only allowed 5kg carry on luggage.
We can at least inform would be renters of the direct flights and for us renters this should help with UK holiday makers. I know from personal experience that I have lost a number of bookings due to the lack of a direct flights.
I would still like to see Ryanair reinstate their direct flights to Lamezia, they were incredible value for money.
This may not affect me in future as I will as from next June have time to drive to Calabria, visit other places on the way there and back and save on car hire as well.

I can confirm that on Avro the technique to get cheap flights is actually the REVERSE of Ryanair et al, ie the price comes DOWN closer to departure date.
Obviously do not expect availability or cheap fares in peak / holiday months, but May usually always good for bargains to virtually anywhere, on these charter type operations sold through Avro, a subsidiary of Monarch. Also, all these flights come atol protected included in your fare , which is NOT the case on many scheduled carriers booked direct with their website!! S :) o price of £115 e way not too bad if you have firm dates.

Monarch flights with Avro flights £116.50 return for 21 may, predict similar prices in June before school holidays as previous post! these fares go DOWN nearer departure whereas Ryanairs go up closer to date.

I have noticed that there have been TUI representatives at Lamezia Terme. Not sure what flights they have been meeting.
I wonder if TUI will be offering late flight only deals for empty seats from Gatwick or Manchester?
