I read an interesting article in an Italian paper that has not been mentioned in the English media, to my knowledge:

O'Leary, in Italy to celebrate the 100.000.000th passenger underlined the importance of the Italian market where, only in Orio al Serio (Milan/Bergamo) they transported 25 million people.

"Italy continues to grow with us" - underlined the CEO of Low Cost - "Last year we have transported 20 million passenger on 23 Airlines, and this year we'll do 22.5 million with a load factor of 84%, leaving behind the national carrier Alitalia and contributing to Italian incoming tourism by bringing foreign tourists back to many Italian destinations".

"During the winter of 2009/2010 we had 200 active planes and 30 on the ground, this year we'll have 240 with 40 on the ground." - said O'Leary - "But we have new bases and routes ready to reach 85 million passengers annually."

Let's hope Lamezia-London is one of the new routes!

That is good news that Ryanair still want to be in Italy but I noticed recently the Stansted -Lamezia flight is no longer even on the website -It had still been there until recently even though there were no flights -I fear this flight may never return -sadly.

New Ryanair routes from Oct and Nov 2010 can be seen at http://www.ryanair.com/en/new-routes
Unfortunately, Lamezia is not on the list, but there might be better connections depending on timetables from London Gatwick to Bologna and Milan Bergamo, and Leeds/Bradford to Dusseldorf(Wheeze), all of which connect to Lamezia.
