To translate Italian documents that I and others receive from Barclays Bank I have suggested in the past to purchase a scanner/printer with an Optical character recognition (OCR) software. The software will automatically convert jpeg files to text which can then be copied to Google Translate to obtain an English version of the document.
I have tried software on the internet in the past which has not been very succesful in converting jpeg files (what you get when you scan a document) to text or Word files.
I have now come across free software that seems to be satisfactory.
This is the url for the programme :- http://jpeg-to-word-converter.en.softonic.com/
It's straight forward to download and save on your computer and relatively straight forward to use.
The scanning software can be confused with various words or letters due to the size or quality of the print, it can confuse vv for w etc. You will notice these mistakes when reading the English translation and this can be rectified by modifying the Italian text in Google Translate.
The translation does give you the gyst of what the document is trying to communicate to you which is usualy sufficient.
If anyone needs help with this download to convert jpeg files to Word, just contact me.

JPG would not be the best format to use for OCR as it is a lossy compressed image format. My recommendation would be TIFF, you may get better results in the word recognition.

Thanks David, that will be very useful. Only this morning I had to type in to Google Translate a letter from Barclays.
