Just a quick note to let you all know I got a 4g signal today in Pizzo on my iPhone with vodafone sim. There is no news about this, it's not yet advertised by vodafone but I did a speediest and got a more than respectable 20megabit down and 10 megabit up - which is way faster than adsl broadband.

So a 4g dongle or Mifi router will come in handy. I'll post more as I move around and find other locations with fast internet around Calabria.

4G in Tropea as well!

But no formal announcement yet from Vodafone. Only Scalea is on the 4G map.

One drawback is the data consumption. I looks like a standard 7GB monthly package will be eaten up in about 7 hours of Skype. FaceTime seems to be much better in that respect.

Just used my THREE mifi dongle from the UK. With the new "Feel like home" it is easy to top up (I have PAYG with my UK debit card). It isn't cheap - £25 for 7GB; and she who must be obeyed had to watch the Strictly final - about 1.4GB used. But it worked.
(I have to use my 'work' remote connection for iPlayer - but it kept the peace!)

I am Cirellae/Diamante and THREE is excellent. Vodafone is good there; but TIM is awful... 2G if you're lucky!
