Just a thought...

To make it easier to navigate the current discussion topics, why not auto-archive anything older than, say, 3 months - into a separate Archive folder..

Hi Rob,
Good idea - the Forum's now grown so large and there are so many topics on here which is great. I'll have a word with someone more technically advanced  and see how we can arrange an Archive File.

If anyone else has any ideas/comments about how you'd like to see topics Indexed or archived please feel free to add your suggestions!

Regards

Sam

Hi Sam,

I'm not really an expert myself.

However, I think what's possible is the following:
- Keep the same top-level categories (e.g. Finance, Buying and Selling, Legal etc etc.)
- Within each of these categories, have an "Archive" thread.
- Then - in each category - there's some way to set any thread that hasn't had a post for 3 months to go into that category's "Archive" folder. (e.g. in the "Buying and Selling" category, quite a few of the "Your feedback" stickies would have been auto-archived by now.)
- It's probably more user-friendly to have a separate Archive folder for each category rather than just one big Archive folder. That way, somebody who's searching specifically for any old detail on, say, legal matters - would only have to delve through the "Legal" archive folder, rather than having to hunt through one mass sprawl of archive info.

Hope the above makes sense! Writing the above idea is the easy bit, but will leave for you and your technical contacts to see what can actually be done in practice! :D

Some of the other forums boatus for one have an Active Topics feature that lets you pull up a list of posts since a given period of time like your last login. Makes it a lot easier to keep up with whats going on. Any chance you can add that here?

The 'View Active Topics' allows you to view the previous topics for the last 7 days and the opportunity to view earlier topics up to one year on the drop down menu. Presumably they eventually they archive under 'Board Index' so that previous postings can be viewed. I have found this quite useful when checking up on previous subjects.
It is important that users allocate and make postings on the correct subject title to make it easier for reading previous posts.

Hi AndressoureMM,
As I undersdtand it you have to be approved by admin to be able to do delete or archive threads.
It would not be good practice to allow anyone who the admin doesn't know to alter anything to do with the Forum.
