In the next episode, on Friday 24 Jan “In the Heat of the Day” Andrew Graham-Dixon and Giorgio Locatelli head south to Campania and Calabria.

BROADCAST: 24 Jan 2014

Italy Unpacked is a series of documentaries about the history and food of Italy as discovered by an English art historian and an Italian cook travelling through Italy.
Their passion for the country, it's people and culture is heartfelt and infectious as they drive through the country in a nice Lamborghini and visit cities, historical sites, food markets and cook their own food in a different kitchen every night.

I stand corrected - they travel around in a Maserati, not Lamborghini. Nice enough for me ;-)

Dennis.

I want that car. I need that car, especially if they are the drivers! Fantastic food and interesting conversation what more can a girl want?

Added a picture of the car. You can get a similar model Maserati Quattro Porte from about €15k - not too bad for a 400BHP car. Italian tax dodgers are selling them in droves as you risk a tax investigation if you drive such a car and declare a very low income.

I thoroughly enjoyed this programme with the enthusiasm of the presenters on their topics was infectious. I only wish that we could enjoy the dishes that they cooked and tasted.
I am surprised that they didn't mention the name of Gerace when filming the Duomo but did mention Stilo. Valli Cupe di Sersale which I found out from Google maps is in the southern part of the Sila NP, north east of Catanzaro. Were they still in Gerace when they cooked the fish dish?
I will now have to view the two previous programmes that I have copied on my DVD recorder to see the other parts of Italy they visited. I presume it will be on BBC Iplayer as well.
I wish I had known about the Temples at Paestum when traveling down through Italy from UK a couple of years ago.
It looks so impressive that I have now just booked to stay at Paestum to see the Temples when I am out in May. It's only a 4 and half hour journey from Santa Maria di Ricadi and the views on the journey particularly through the mountains if my memory serves me correctly, very pleasant.

Hi David,

well done for spotting Gerace!

The Paestum site is impressive, the village and area (imho) less so.

We watched the episode on the iPlayer today, always enjoyable.

Take care,

Dennis.
