10 Routes in total, two new routes from Lamezia to Venice and Lamezia to Rome Fiumicino.

Ryanair has opened its new base in Lamezia with an assigned aircraft and 10 routes, including two new routes from Rome Fiumicino and Venice (Treviso).

The rates for the daily service of Ryanair from Rome Fiumicino to Lamezia ( 2 times a day ) start at just € 28.99 one way ( including taxes and charges ) , more than 60% cheaper than Alitalia's lowest rates on this route, which currently start at € 75 one way.

Ryanair celebrated the start of its operations from the new base of Lamezia providing seats on its entire European network with fares starting from only € 16.99 for travel in January and February 2014, available for booking until midnight (24: 00) Monday (23 December).

Speaking at Lamezia, John Alborante Ryanair, said: "Ryanair is delighted to open its new base at Lamezia , with two new routes to Rome Fiumicino and Venice (Treviso), which will allow us to carry up to 1.1 million passengers a year supporting 1,100 jobs locally.

As the number 1 airline company in Italy we are continuing to meet with our airport partners , who want to make sure you have some domestic routes and flows to and from Rome Fiumicino , especially since Alitalia continues to restructure . Ryanair will ensure that connections to Rome and Southern Italy will be retained even if the plans were for Alitalia to reduce capacity on domestic routes and currently hundreds of Calabrian families are returning home in time for Christmas thanks to Ryanair's low fares , which start at just € 28.99.

It looked like the carrier was going to move its existing Milan Bergamo network into Milan Malpensa – however it is just for three weeks while runway work is being undertaken at Bergamo in May.

I'm visiting my apartment in Isca Marina for Easter. Ryanair have introduced a new flight from Dublin to Bari and so I'm trying this out. Obviously, it will be a longer drive, but I think there is a motorway for most of the journey. Will let you know how I get on.

It's a very pretty drive along the ss106 all the way from Taranto. I think it's a decent option, especially for the Soverato Ischia area.
