My Wife will be flying into Naples in April for the first and plans to take the train down to Pizzo. Can you please advise on the safest way to get from the airport to the station and is it taxi or bus? Any advice would be most appreciated.

Thanks Fran.

Outside of the airport there is a bus service to the station the fare is 3 euros per person. It does not stop directly outside the station. You do have to walk past what appears to some unsavoury characters, but then again the area around Kings Cross in London is none too great.

Yes, don't get stitched by a taxi driver who fancies 3 laps of the city at your expense! Some will try it, I believe.
Take a hand-held sat nav to see where you are. We got one the size of a cigarette packet which is so convenient.

I should have added the station can be seen as the large building at the far end of the square at the rear of the bus. For the return journey the stop is located in the street on the right of the station you need to walk down the street past the first bus stops.

PS as in any major city in the world I would be wary of having on display any small electrical item e.g. mobile, sat nav.

Fran,

Just to expand on that bus. You need to look for the "Alibus" and this is a direct route to the train station. You won't have a problem.

Don't forget to punch your ticket in one of the the little machines on the bus even if you only bought the ticket as you got on.

Be carefull though, Garibaldi St is in one of the worst areas in Naples, my friends in Sorrento never travel by train to the city because of this and i found it quite scary when i ended up there because the last ferry was cancelled to Sorrento, and I am from Glasgow. (0: . You catch the train on the top level of the station to Reggio it is quite easy to see when you go in from the taxi rank.
