Evening,

I have just got back from a trip to Tropea house hunting. we are looking to invest but I have heard mixed reviews regarding rental income potential and the only months to really get a property rented out is July and August.
Also are prices negotiable in this area.

thankyou for any feedback
Lucy

Hi Lucy,
Welcome to the Forum.
Without doubt July and August are the peak months for renting out but there are people renting out like myself from May through to the end of October. Property location, quality of the accomodation is key for purchase as well as for renting.
As Calabria gets better known by the Brits more will come to the Region to holiday and purchase. The continentals discovered Calabria some time ago and many of them come to visit and holiday outside of the peak season.
When you queried negotiation on price, were you referring to rentals or the purchase price?

Hi Lucy,
I have sent you a pm.
I am sure that all property offers are up for negotiation. At the end of the day it depends if it is a reasonable offer that the vendor will accept.

I think most of the claims should be taken with a pinch of salt. Ask to see a rental calendar before deciding on whether or not to buy if this is going to fund the purchase. A lot of people put their properties on rental sites, see if you can find them and look at their availability. 2016 may still be available
Calabria is a wonderful place to holiday and stay out of season, the east coast is quieter than Tropea. I prefer it.

Tropea is always very busy being one of the favourite tourist destinations but there are places near to Tropea like above Santa Maria di Ricadi that are peaceful. There are other places nearby up hill from the coast that are even quieter.
Lorica is correct check any properties that are currently renting to show that they are used during the summer period that the rentals cover the outgoings.
