Hi All

Can anyone tell me if a new law has been passed making it illegal for the use of gas bottles in apartment complexes if there is already gas being piped in?

Are there other complexes out there that use both and have no problem with insurance and the fire department over this?
Cheers Diane :)

I am not entirely sure, but I think gas bottles need to be kept outside the property nowadays and most new developments have it piped to the kitchen from the balcony/veranda/garden if there is no central solution.

Can you tell me if there is a gas company who pipe the gas into apartments or does the builder do it?? reason I am asking is that the builder has said that according to the fire health and safety rules that you cannot have gas stored on a complex and also have gas bottles in use at the same time because its a hazard, whilst this makes sense to me, the builder on our complex wants to pipe and supply the gas himself which would mean he could vertually charge us what he wants for the use of gas and this to me seems wrong. Anyone else out there in the same situation??? He has also stated that it is a new law that we cant use both.

In a condo you would install a central tank under the ground with independent meters for each connected apartment so you only pay as you consume. Often the installation of the tank is free but you are tied to a contract to the gas supplier.

For a summer home, in my opinion, this is all overkill. Much easier to install an induction cooking plate (one off investment) and have just one utility bill, assuming you use a/c for heating and have an electric boiler for hot water.

Hope this helps,

Dennis.
