Hi guys,
I thought it would be helpful to start a new thread outlining some useful web links for all Calabria property owners. There seem to be a number of people looking for timetables etc; So if anyone knows of useful links maybe they could mentioned them here.

I'll start by listing some of mine:

http://www.sacal.it
This is the main website for Lamezia Terme airport, this web link is an invaluable source of information. You can check on arrival and departure times daily or specify a date. The website is also available in English. By checking on the ‘arrivals’ section of the website, you can see the details of all the airlines who fly into Lamezia, making it easier to choose alternative routes to get to Calabria.

http://www.ferroviedellostato.it
This is the main website for ‘Trenitalia’ the Italian rail system. All of the major towns in Calabria have a local train station, via this website you can enter your town of departure and enter where you want to go, it will tell you the time, length of journey and how much your fare will be. Also, you are provided with the times and information for all the trains coming from Rome, Milan, Pisa and Naples. The website is available in English and you can book your tickets online. The journey from Rome to Lamezia by train is approx 5 hours.

http://www.euronics.it
With branches in most major towns in Calabria and also 2 flagship stores situated in the Vibo Center and the Due Mara (Cantanzaro), they carry all major electrical brands and products. With competitive pricing, they make it easy for you to pick up items like A/C, Washing machines, Irons, Kettles, TV’s, Home furnishings, Household, DIY plus lots more.

http://www.vibocenter.it
Situated in the heart of Vibo Valentia, this commercial centre is easy to find, with signposts directing you from all towns, bringing you right to the front door of the centre. It has over 60 stores and parking for over 300 cars. Some major brands like Zara, Benetton, Gamestop, Euronics and Spar are just a few examples of the top brands taking up residence in the huge commercial centre. It’s a great day out for all the family, especially if the weather takes a turn for the worse.

http://www.enel.it
Enel is the main electricity supply board here in Italy. Once you complete on your apartment, you are taken off ‘builders supply’, you then have to organize your own new connection with Enel. Their office locations are in Vibo and Tropea. The normal costs for this connection which also includes a meter is roughly €300, some agents can charge ridiculous amounts of money for this service. Non-residents pay a higher tariff than residents for their supply of electricity.

Just another link to a you tube movie, this was flimed Saturday 14th of November in my hometown, Cork, Ireland.

The Irish people had enough of the constant rain and this is their remedy to try and fix things.

Proud to be Irish, up the rebels!!!!!

We should try and organise something like this in Calabria, anyone interested?????

Paul

Thanks guys and glad to be of help.
I think the more we can add to this thread the better for all concerned, the more informed people are the better it makes their stay in Calabria, whether it be long term or short term.

I have included the link below for the main bus service in Calabria.
There is no tab to change the lanuage into English, but all you have to do is use a translation service like 'Google' and translate the whole site into English.

Hi folks,

This is one place I would recommend people to visit, Men & Women, kids & elderly.

Its not just a place for Spa treatements, manicures etc; It covers so many conditions i.e. :

Respiratory Problems
Aural Conditions
Rheumatoid arthritis
Dermatalogical Treatments
Gynecological Treatments
Rehabilitation Treatments.

The website has an English translation, its not far from Lamezai Nicastro, just ask any locals for directions. Ring in advance, as this place is always busy, treatements start from as little as €15. They speak English at the desk, one of our Irish friends thought all the staff in reception.
One of the treatements for respiratory problems is amazing, you sit in front of this machine and put your face into a mask. You feel a million times better after it, Italians take the treatment all the time, whether they have problems or not, maybe thats why they have a long life expectancy.

Natural Spring
Across the road from the centre, there is an outdoor spring, FREE for anyone to use, 24/7. Be aware it is quite smelly (smells a bit like rotten eggs), takes a few minutes to adjust to the strong smell of sulphur, the spring is a natural sulphuric spring, the sulphur comes straight from the mountain. We go there regularly, I'm 36 yrs old and after relaxing and bathing in the natural spring, people now think I look 18 LOL

Paul,

Some fantastic links there! Some I have used before but others I've never seen before.

I have seen reference tothe Vibo Center before but didn't really appreciate what was there and how to find it. So that is fab. I'm now wondering how far it is from the train station at Vibo - anyone know?

Regarding Trains, does anyone know if there is a map or a list of the stops from Napoli to Tropea? I have clicked on the Trenitalia map provided on the page Paul has linked us to, but all it does is enlarge to show main stations.

Mrs T

Very, very far. The train station is near Vibo Marina, Vibo Center is at the other side of Vibo Valentia.
