and the beginning of another!

Dear all,

we've closed the business and associated websites and are transferring the forum over to our good friends at Calabrian Services who also run the Calabrian Voice newspaper which is a good match for this Forum.

As such you may want to update your bookmarks as the only domain where the forum will be reachable is http://www.calabrianforum.com.

I wish all of you the best and I look forward to visit Calabria as a tourist next time!

Dennis.

Dear Jessika and Dennis,
So sad to hear that you are ceasing your activities in Calabria and this Forum.
It has been a immense help for many who have been interested in Calabria whether purchasing or finding out invalauable information about the Region.
A personal thanks again to the two of you for your amazing help when we purchased our apartment five years ago and all the help and advice since then.
I wish you every success in your future in Holland or wherever you settle in Europe and enjoy your family life.
Hope we may meet up again in Calabria at some stage.
Our best wishes,
Agnes and David

First of all i would like to thank Dennis and Jessika with entrusting this forum to us. For a while now ourselves and Dennis have been talking about contributing to the Calabrian Forum to help people understand this special place that we call home. As one era ends another begins.

Let me first introduce ourselves, my name is Paul Clare and together with my wife Lorraine Baker we set up a property management business here in Calabria in Pizzo in 2009. After many years of working in the property industry we have a unique insight into how the country works in our field. This is the experience we hope to be able to add to this forum.

We will do our best to keep up the good work and look forward to getting to know the moderators and forum contributors as we go. If you have any questions you can contact us direct at info@calabrianforum.com

we look forward to a progressive and positive forum.

Paul Clare and Lorraine Baker

Hello Paul and Lorraine,
Please to hear that the Forum will continue under your competent care. This Forum is so useful for would be purchasers as well as owners in Calabria who wish to keep up to date with numerous topics.
We have met briefly just before you were married in Piazza Republica in Pizzo when I introduced myself to you.
Wish you success as being the admin person.

Many thanks to previous owners - I find the site invaluable even though we are low contributors.

Very welcome to Paul and Loraine whom we know from when we purchased our apartment in Lamezia. Hopefully we can meet up when we're over next July. We'll give you a call nearer the time.

Best of luck with this new adventure.

Sean & Mary (Dublin)

Hi Dennis,
You were of immense help with my purchase in 'Santa' all those years ago .
Thank you again. Your advise on this site was always spot on.
I never contributed much but always kept an interested eye.
Wishing you and Jessika the very best for the future. Grumpy . [ Irlandese ]

I echo these sentiments. Good luck Dennis with whatever you do in the future and thanks for all you've done in the past.

It is a shame to see this forum wither and die, due to lack of interest by moderators etc.
I have posted umpteen times lately , obviously wasting my time , as they are never approved or published !

Don't give up Grumpy, I have seen your postings and of late more peoiple are using the Forum again.
Unfortunately of recent months a lot of Russian rubbish and today about 40 Polish 'rubbish' postings that has taken me a lot of time to delete.

I have just deleted 70 dubious postings. Takes a time to do that even when clicking down a page. Is the spam fill in the following numbers etc working on the site? Can Admin please do something about it?

If you go the 'moderators control panel' it will bring up all te posts waiting for approval so that you can bulk select and approve / delete.

Hi Admin,
Just deleted about 20 unsuitable posts that were not in the Moderators Control Panel (MCP). posted under the 'Admin' subject heading. There were however 3 postings in the MCP to be checked? How do these get through?

Who is actually in charge of this forum , is there an individual with ultimate responsibility ?
It appears to be drifting into oblivion.
A simple 'captcha' would fix some of the spam.
Its goodbye from me until the owner takes a grip . Arrivaderci, Grumpy

Grumpy,
Don't give up on the Forum, it is still an excellent platform for advise and comment.
I presume that Admin have the ultimate responsibility for the Forum but we as users can help out in many ways. I found out this past week that if a Forum user has posted 100 postings they are given the opportunity to delete or approve postings.
I check the Forum every day and do delete many irrelevant and unsuitable postings. Today has been a particularly bad day for numerous Polish spam postings. We have to persevere, it will be a shame if these spammers win the day and take down this valuable Forum.

David, You are doing a sterling job, but a simple cure is to have the admin put a captcha on the posting form/page.
It would take a matter of minutes for the developer, and would stop the bots. Not however the human idiots, although it would slow them down .
It must be very time consuming going over all the rubbish and deleting every few hours. You should receive a medal !

I think I have cracked it as far as the unsuitable postings that arrive on 'View Active Topics' as I can delete all the postings in one go instead of individually of a scammer with a few clicks. Wish I had discovered that earlier yesterday as it would have saved me a lot of time.
Those waiting on the 'Moderator Control Panel' for approval are deleted without much problem.
I am not sure whether a captcha system will work I don't know much about IT.

I've just banned and deleted another pile of postings. Who actually rums this forum now?
