Topic review - The Legal Services Ombudsman is closing
Author Message
Post subject:  The Legal Services Ombudsman is closing  Reply with quote
The Legal Service Ombudsman (LSO) is closing. This is the body which deals with complaints about the handling of cases by the Legal Complaints Service and the Solicitors Regulation Authority and should not be confused with the Legal Ombudsman (LeO) who now deals with complaints against solicitors.

The office in Manchester will close on 31 March 2011 and there will be quite a large number of cases outstanding, around 600 I believe. The Lord Chancellor, Ken Clarke, issued a direction to the LSO in December about which types of cases to prioritise. All cases received before the end of 2010 have to be closed by 28 February 2011.

Zahida Manzoor steps down on 2nd March 2011 and John Norton will be acting LSO for the rest of 2011 to deal with any outstanding cases. They expect all cases to be completed by September 2011.

The LSO does not now have the power to order the professional body to reconsider the complaint and so where it is considered that the original investigation was inadequate he will recommence the investigation and conduct it himself.

I understand that if your complaint is currently being investigated and a decision to reconsider is made, that you will be informed of such prior to any reconsideration taking place so you can supply further evidence and/or information.

If you need any further information please send me a PM.
